Luna 9

On Feb 3rd 1966, the Soviet spaceship Luna 9 made a controlled landing on the surface of the moon, making it the first probe from Earth to have a successful soft landing on another planetary body. It only functioned for a few days, but managed to send back a number of photographs and other useful data.
